Chapter 2: It was all in my head
In the morning, a teenager leaves home after an argument with his parents, and he thinks,
I have a heart that gets hurt,
I have the intellect to understand.
I have a mind that thinks,
I have a soul that was crushed.
The boy rides his bicycle with rage and anger. He wants to go somewhere far and never return. He speaks to himself out loud,
I am just a child,
but, you both behave like one.
I am just a teenager,
Doing what you both did long back.
I want to do what I like,
and not what you say.
I want to be my own person,
and not your better version.
In the office over lunch, the boy's father was thinking about quarrels over his misbehaving child.
I can't help but think of the fight,
I just want you to be right.
But I'll never give up on you,
I hope that someday you'll see.
The mother at home recalls how she shouted at her growing son when she was cooking his favorite meal for dinner.
You were once just a blip,
Grew up to what you are.
I wish only the best for you,
I love you, with all my heart.
The teenage boy watches the setting sun while riding his bicycle, he thinks,
Do not forget who you are,
Do not forget they love you.
More than anyone else in this world,
More than the stars that you can count.
In a state of sadness, the boy stops cycling, turns his bicycle towards home, thinks to himself,
I don't want to leave them alone,
I don't want to be alone,
I don't want to see them in pain,
I don't want to cause them grief.
When father and son arrive at the door at the same time, the father puts his hands on his son's shoulders and says,
I am just yet another human here,
I am just like you, yet another soul.
You are not mine, nor I am yours,
But remember, we are all one.
I made your body, not your soul,
Do not give yourself to the illusions.
I may be your father in this life,
I might have been your son in another.
The boy's mother waiting for her son to arrive at the door hears the sound, opens the door, smiles, and walks her child inside, saying,
When you feel abandoned,
Remember, you are my everything.
I give you my blood, love, and happiness,
You are my life, my home, and my heart.
You are not just a branch in my tree,
You are not a seed that sowed.
You are the only one that I have,
Remember, I will always love you.
Understanding how the boy's parents love him, and how much they care, a smile spreads across his face, He thinks,
It was all in my head,
The happiness and sadness.
The anger and aggression,
The seasons and the waning moon.
It was all in my head.
It was all just an illusion.
He then says to his mother,
I know what you made today for dinner,
I can't wait, I am hungry, can we eat?
This is a part of the book that I am writing for my son, whose name is Ishaan Inlakesh. Inlakesh means I am you, You are me, in mayan language, A beautiful philosophy. I named him to remember that I should never forget that we are all one and the same, something that I personally experienced one day.
The name of the book is I am you, You are me.
